Stavros Gasparatos was born in Patras in 1975. He studied classical and jazz guitar at the Fillipos Nakas conservatory. He has also studied mechanical engineering at Patras Technological University and at the same time he has followed sound engineering seminars, and since 2000 he owns the professional recording studio, studio123. In 1998 together with Alexandros Tsilfidis they founded the music group gyro gyro. Since 1997 Stavros Gasparatos has been working as a music composer, arranger, music producer and sound engineer.
The year 2006 he participated as a member of the dance group amorphy.org (as music composer and sound designer) in the E.U. program i-map (Integration of Media, Arts and Performance), working with: De Waag institute (Amsterdam), Interspace Media Center (Sofia),Interaktionslabor (Gotelsbork) (watch promo video)
In June of 2009 he composed the music for the opening ceremony
of the New Acropolis Museum (watch video), directed by Athina Tsagari.
The group was founded in 1998. Their first album, "gyro-gyro" was released in 2000 featuring musicians B.L. Reininger (Tuxedomoon), N Kypourgos and others. For two years after the release of their album they perform live, engage in several collaborations and make the first steps of working in the theatre and cinema.
In 2002 they release their second album "thimame ta panta". The album's track "den iparhi hronos gia esena" gets released in a compilation cd by the magazine "music & media". In 2003 they perform live with Nikos Kypourgos in two concerts in the Athens Concert Hall and again in 2004 in Thessaloniki Concert Hall, together with eminent greek performers (Alk. Ioannides, L. Kalimeri, D. Dimosthenous, Chr. Aidonides, M. Farantouri).
In June 2003, they represent Greece in the European Biennale of Modern Art and perform live at Patras International Festival. The same year they contribute three tracks to the soundtrack of the film Oxygono by Reppas - Papathanasiou.
