- PRESS RELEASE -
What would happen if you let yourself lose control, break out, without any impacts? The moment that we release previously repressed emotions is the core of the music performance “Rage Park” of composer and sound artist Stavros Gasparatos. “Rage Park” draws on pent-up rage and the need to express this rage and liberate oneself. It explores the thin line separating calmness and rage, inviting the audience to a positively liberating experience.
One year after the performance/installation at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the music of “Rage Park” is released for the first time. The album consists of 7 instrumental tracks recorded live on Venue B in July 2018 and featuring the musicians: Anastasis Mysirlis (cello), Mihalis Vrettas (violin), Pericles Timplalexis (violin), Panos Tsigos (piano, electronics), Stavros Gasparatos (piano, percussion, electronics). The album artwork is based on the work Spiked-Wire Frieze of the Greek artist Nikos Sepetzoglou.
Stavros Gasparatos continues working on “Rage Park” with the collaboration of a great team of artists, preparing a performance/installation which will take place on The Contemporary Theatre of Athens on May 23rd and 24th.
In parallel with the release of the album, director Stathis Athanasiou presents his homonymous short length film, a music video trilogy that will premier on directorsnotes.com on May 7th. The three video clips that come from this film and accompany the release of the album can be viewed on the director’s channel on youtube.
“Rage Park” is out on limited edition solid white/black vinyl, cd and digital album on May 20th via Inner Ear.

STAGING Solo #2 (2017) is an iteration derived from Maria Hassabi’s multi-sited live installation STAGING (2017), previously exhibited at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis and documenta 14, Kassel. In STAGING: Solo #2, a singular performer, an expanse of a vivid pink carpet, and an ambient soundscape are installed in the monumental space of the Grabbe Halle at K20, Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf. The lone figure in a brightly patterned outfit moves at a measured pace, morphing the body at slow, sometimes imperceptible velocities, as it enacts a two-hour choreographic cycle that loops throughout the museum’s opening hours. Creating a recurrent form that occupies a specific space and seemingly unbroken time, the performer subtly negotiates their task: a detailed choreographic script, the representation of the space itself, and the expectations of the viewer. The initial invitation of a spectacle exhausts itself, and the possibility for an intimate exchange within a quiet site emerges.
Performers include: Hristoula Harakas, Maria Hassabi, Niall Jones, Mickey Mahar, Paige Martin, Oisín Monaghan, Nancy Stamatopoulou
Outfits: Victoria Bartlett, Composer: Marina Rosenfeld, Sound Designer: Stavros Gasparatos, Production: Kate Scherer, Management: Alexandra Rosenberg
